The Dovecote Oracle · Est. 1904

Ask a pigeon.

Our birds are not clairvoyant. They are, however, consistent. Pose any question and a member of the flock will offer a response within the limits of what a bird of their disposition is prepared to commit to in writing.

The pigeon will not read it. The pigeon will respond anyway.

How the Oracle works.

Your question is read aloud, by a staff member, in a carrying voice, in the direction of the dovecote. A pigeon is selected on the basis of posture, availability, and whether it looks like it has an opinion. The pigeon then does one of the following:

  1. pecks at the gravel in a pattern our chaplain interprets
  2. looks away
  3. departs
  4. performs a short dance (rare, significant)
  5. makes no observable response (frequently the clearest answer)

The result is transcribed, cleaned up for grammar, and returned to you below. Pigeons are not legally liable for life decisions taken on their advice.
